All About the 5th Grade

It's Catholic Schools Week. There are many fun activities planned.   We will have lessons when they fit into our schedule.

SUBJECT	Weeks of 1/30-2/3
Reading	The students will read Chapters 9-13.  They will read about the Soo and write letters to tourist centers about different cities. They will examine the cargo ship routes of the Great Lakes.  They will write a legend about the origin of weather.
Spelling	The students will choose twenty words from their Spelling list.  They will define them and use them in sentences.  They will define a set of vocabulary words. They will practice for the Spelling Bee.
Language	The students will define, list, and use comparative and proper adjectives.  They will use good/better/best and bad/worse/worst correctly.
Computer Lab	Students will access the Where is Paddle? website.
Writing	The students will write a legend about the origin of weather.
Math	The students will simply fractions.  They will define and use LCM and LCD.  They will compare and order fractions.
Religion	Students will retell the stories of Samson and Ruth.  They will explain the life lessons we learn from the experiences of these two people in the Old Testament.
United States History	Students will explain the early settlement of the Southern colonies. They will complete the chapter review.  They will demonstrate mastery by completing Chapter 8 test.
Science	The students will explain which wheels keep you safe in certain situations.  They will read Science Weekly about Motion.
